In the Mood for Love (2000)
In the Mood for Love is a Hong Kong drama that directed and written by Kar-Wai Wong which released in 2000. In the Mood for Love is a Romance film with full of suspect and struggle about love. This masterpiece is categorized as French Impressionist Cinema which is a genre that very popular between 1919 and 1928. This opinions will be proved as below.
French Impressionist Cinema which had highly developed and produced in 1919 to 1928. It is exploring the psychological cause, as well as gives the narration considerable psychological depth and revealing play about the character's dreams, aspiration, concerns mental states, consciousness, fantasies and others. Flashbacks and memories occur frequently in the film to has the manipulates plot time and subjectivity. Irises, superimpositions, masks are used to indicate and show the thoughts and feelings of the character in the visual depiction of mental states via cinematography and editing skills. Besides that, visuals are distorted, filtered or vertiginous camera movement to show the illusion of dizzy or drunkenness. POV (Point of View) camera angle and rhythmic editing are matched nicely to show the character's experience of particular situations clearly.

It is talking a bout the two next door neighbors who move in an narrow apartment at the same time. A man, Chow Mo-wan who acted by Tony Leung and a woman, Su li-Zhen who acted by Maggie Cheung partners are falling in love after moving in and meet each other. the man and the woman who betrayed by their partners are discussing the script together and suspecting extramarital activities of their partners' spouses with the convinced of their will not same like their partners betray family. Unfortunately, they fall in love with each other after interacting many times and slowly developed the feelings with each other. However, they are trying to retain their moral as not to commit the similar wrongs by struggling with keeping the love and the feelings for each other as secret.
In the Mood for Love (2000)
This film is presenting the psychological cause which is the important characteristic of French Impressionist Cinema about the mood of love which shown by Chow Mo-Wan with Su li-Zhen who are married. Flashback technique was used when Chow Mo-wan is smoking and alone in the office about his memories with Su li-Zhen which is talking and laughing together. Rhythmic editing skill was well presented the emotion of both of them in the film, Yumeji's theme is the main background music in the film which enhance the character's emotion very well. It always edited in when wanted to enhance the loneliness, love, and missing about each other. Cam movement is very smooth while panning along with the frames in the film and brought about by frame mobility which create the strong feelings of suspect in the film.
In conclusion, this film is highly recommended to watch due to its deep meaning and very nice use of camera angle, technique, editing skills and others. It contained a lot of psychological issues and the moral value of married people who trying to keep loyalty and responsibility to their family. Tony Leung was awarded as the first Hong Kong best Actor at Cannes due to this film.
