Clueless (1995)
Clueless, a American coming-of-age romantic comedy film which written and directed by Amy Heckerling and produced by Scott Rudin and Robert Lawrence in 1995. Clueless (1995) is fall under Feminist film movement which started in 1920s. Below are my review about this film and the reason of Clueless (1995) falls under feminist film theory.
Feminist film theory is mainly focus on women's expression of her own subjectivity and it was started in 1920s but matured in late 1960s after radicalized feminist movement. It is a set of political practices seen over the analyses of social or historical position of women as subordinated, oppressed or exploited in dominant modes of production or by social relations of patriarchy or male domination. Themes explored in feminist theory is more stressed on women's ideology which include discrimination, stereotyping, objectification, oppression and patriarchy. It categorized as 3 perspectives of looking which is male character looking at female character in film, audience in cinema looking at female character in film and audience in cinema looking via the eyes of male character who is looking at female character.
Clueless (1995)
Cher who is a shallow, rich and socially successful at the top of her Beverly hills high school's packing scale. She seeing herself as a matchmaker and she first coaxes her two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to match make a new student, Tai with another boy...
Cher Horowitz who is a confidence and helpful girl that likes to help out her friends even match make the new student, Tai with a rich and handsome guy in the school. She helps her to dress up gorgeously and make chances for her to interact with the guy. Dionne Davenport who is a black girl that follows Cher as her best friends in the school and she is dominant in her relationship with Murray Duvali who is a mammy boy. Tai Frasier, the new student who is a bitch that is ungrateful after become the top socialize student in the school. In the film, female is being discriminated as weak in driving when Dionne closely lose her and her friends' life due to she is too nervous on driving and being scold by her boyfriend. Seeking out the final resolution os the preferred female representation of Feminist theory also shown by the rich guy who has good feeling towards Cher who is more beautiful compare to Tai.
In conclusion, female was very low valued in the society so Feminist theory was appeared for film in 1920s to build up a new ideology towards female which representing female's power and social rank.
